Kid heading to college? Don’t forget insurance

A lot of things happen when your kids graduate from high school. There's college, summer jobs, moving out the house into a place of your own. All of these lifestyle changes may require an adjustment to insurance coverage.
Let's start with that move to college. Darren Sanger is with the NW Insurance Council.
"If the student is living in a dorm room, he and his personal property are covered under his parent's policy. If they're living in off campus housing, then they'll need their owner renters policy to cover their personal belongings," he said.
What if your graduate takes a summer job that requires the use of a personal vehicle, maybe delivering pizzas?
"If you are using your personal vehicle for business purposes, typically your autoinsurance policy will not cover that," said Sanger.
Maybe it isn't a delivery job, but your son or daughter needs to drive more than they did in the past. That could create the need to adjust the insurance coverage.
If your college graduate is not taking a family car to school, you can take him or her off your policy. That should save you ...
